Here is an easier version of the quilt. Using blue fabric with white stars helps you to not have to piece the star field of the flag. I have some to share if you need it. Call me with questions. Sherrie.

Flag Wallhanging~~May's Project

We had a great time today working on our Prairie Flower quilt. Continue to get your blocks ready for hand applique, put them in a small container and take it with you where ever you go. You will be surprised at how your attitude changes about having to wait for appointments or what ever. You might even find yourself getting annoyed when "they" call for you or when your children's practice is over. :)

May 22 will be the class for the flag quilt.
~Collect 7 different reds, 6 different whites or light tans. These will make up the stripes of the flag. Cut each into 2" by 44" strips. You will probably be able to make two quilts out of this amount of fabric. (Make one for yourself and give one as a gift. I have made around seven of these and can't seem to keep one in the house! Maybe this time?)

~For the star field; collect blue, white (light tan), gold, and red. Large scraps or fat quarters are a good size.
~You will also need sashing, red or blue, 2-1 1/2"x44" strips. Border, red or blue, 2-4 1/2"x44" strips. Backing, 1 yard, and thin batting, 1 yard. (Double amounts of sashing, borders, backing and batting if making two flags)

I will work at making a sample and post it so you will see a finished product.

Great Minds...

We had a good get together on Thursday. Thanks for coming on short notice!
After talking and looking at ideas, it sounds like we have plenty to do! We worked up a calendar of ideas and I will update that and keep it current on the right side of the blog. The months will alternate between a bigger quilting project (seasonal) and then other sewing projects, ideas and patterns. Please add posts, comments or e-mail me with any ideas or thoughts that you have to share. Also, what else would you like to see on the blog? It's so fun to learn from each other!

Fun day tie dying eggs.
1.Look in your husbands closet...maybe not...or the thrift store for 100% silk ties.
2. Wrap eggs; pull fabric to the top of egg and fasten with a twist tie or string. (option; after covering egg with the piece of tie, wrap whole egg in string.) See picture.
3. Place in cold water, with 1/2 to 1 cup vinegar added to water.
4. Bring to boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
5. Remove from heat and rinse with cold water.
6. This is the fun part...uncover eggs. Find your surprise!

Have fun!
